Job Description SummaryThis position will be responsible for designing, modeling, configuration, testing and commissioning of Protection and Control (P&C) systems for customers outsourcing their power system design and testing work. The successful candidate should also be very familiar with IEC61850 configuration & data model, digital substations, and virtualization of protection.
Roles and ResponsibilitiesDesign and testing of customized P&C solutions (both in house and at customer installations) to meet user specifications & requirementsDevelop test setups, test plans, and test case (including wiring diagrams and configurations or relays and controllers)Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) including Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) tests using real-time digital simulatorsPrepare test reports, project reports, and project deliverablesAnalyze and troubleshoot field cases involving GE or third-party relaysPerform engineering studies including but not limited to power flows, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, voltage & loss analysis, etc.Participate in development of project proposals and work/effort estimateEffectively engage with customers to clarify requirements and present completed work.Participate in business development activities to grow services, including writing technical papers, presentation to customers or at conferencesMay require travel up to 20 - 40% of the time depending on projects
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical EngineeringMinimum of five (5) years of experience in power system protection and control
Desired CharacteristicsMaster's Degree or higherP.Eng./PE certificationExperience in programming GE relays, specifically UR and MICOM familyExperience in designing power system protection, control and automation schemesExcellent understanding of all major protection principles including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator and Motor protections.Working experience with power system software tools such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, and MATLAB for modeling and analysis.Familiarity with one or more programming languages (Pythan, C++, VB, etc.) is an assetEthical and professional business manner in interaction with team members and customersCustomer focused; open to accept new challenges and share ideasTechnical skills to execute projects, identify opportunities, and write proposalsExcellent understanding of communication system protocols and architectures in electric power industry with focus on IEC61850 model and configuration.Good knowledge and understanding of digital substation and virtualization of protection systemsFamiliarity with transmission and distribution protection standards/codesStrong communication skills including technical writing and presentationsKnowledge or field experience with system commissioning and testing
